چکیده

Background Three-dimensional (3D) velocity-encoded MRI (4DFLOW) of the heart may be used for the assessment of systolic and diastolic function. Particle tracing is frequently used as a technique for visualization of 3D intra-cardiac flow patterns. As the obtained velocity data may suffer from imperfections in the acquisition technique, it is important to have a means for image quality control. Consistency of the 4D FLOW data with other CMR measurements is a means for internal data consistency and may serve as surrogate validation. The purpose of the study was to apply particle tracing in 4DFLOW MRI of the heart and to compare aortic flow measurements derived from particle tracing with an alternative validated MR analysis technique.

In‐scan and scan–rescan assessment of LV in‐ and outflow volumes by 4D flow MRI versus 2D planimetry

PURPOSE To evaluate the in-scan and scan-rescan consistency of left ventricular (LV) in- and outflow assessment from 1) 2D planimetry; 2) 4D flow magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with retrospective valve tracking, and 3) 4D flow MRI with particle tracing. MATERIALS AND METHODS Ten healthy volunteers (age 27 ± 3 years) underwent multislice cine short-axis planimetry and whole-heart 4D flow MRI...

Volume Tracking: A new method for quantitative assessment and visualization of intracardiac blood flow from three-dimensional, time-resolved, three-component magnetic resonance velocity mapping

BACKGROUND Functional and morphological changes of the heart influence blood flow patterns. Therefore, flow patterns may carry diagnostic and prognostic information. Three-dimensional, time-resolved, three-directional phase contrast cardiovascular magnetic resonance (4D PC-CMR) can image flow patterns with unique detail, and using new flow visualization methods may lead to new insights. The aim...

Volume Tracking: A New Method for Visualization of Intracardiac Blood Flow from Three-Dimensional, Time-Resolved, Three-Component Magnetic Resonance Velocity Mapping Appendix: Theory and Numerical Implementation

This document describes the theory and technical details of Volume Tracking, a new method for visualization of flow measured using four-dimensional phase contrast magnetic resonance imaging (4D PC-MRI) [1]. Volume Tracking provides a new visual impression of the flow compared to particle tracing, the most commonly used method for visualization of 4D PC-MRI data. Volume Tracking uses a novel for...

Advanced Analysis Techniques for Intra-cardiac Flow Evaluation from 4D Flow MRI

PURPOSE OF THE REVIEW Time-resolved 3D velocity-encoded MR imaging with velocity encoding in three directions (4D Flow) has emerged as a novel MR acquisition technique providing detailed information on flow in the cardiovascular system. In contrast to other clinically available imaging techniques such as echo-Doppler, 4D Flow MRI provides the 3D Flow velocity field within a volumetric region of...

4D flow MRI of the aorta becomes practical: performance and observer variability for a new semi-automated workflow for 3D visualization and quantification of aortic hemodynamics

Background To systematically investigate the performance and interobserver variability of a new standardized workflow for the analysis of aortic hemodynamics based on 4D-flow MRI in a study with 30 subjects. The semi-automated workflow was developed to ensure faster and standardized data analysis including systematic placement of analysis planes, 3D-flow visualization, and quantification of sta...
